Anne (Annie) Montgomery was born in 1969 in Big Horn, Wyoming. Growing up on a ranch, she was inspired by the beautiful Big Horn Mountains and the people who lived there. Anne studied drawing and painting from an early age, working with her father, a successful commercial artist. She was drawn to books about art and was not only inspired, but learned a lot, especially from artists such as Michelangelo and the Flemish and Dutch masters.
She lived and attended college in Durango, Colorado, earning her degree in Humanities and Art and over the next eight years pursued her art studies, primarily in figurative / portraiture work in the United States with numerous gifted painters, drawing teachers and sculptors. Montgomery then ventured off to France to live on a small farm in the Loire Valley with an elderly couple, their children and animals and studied, for several years, at Ecole Albert Defois under Ted Seth Jacobs. While in Europe, she also studied in Florence at The Florence Academy for a year and traveled to Venice, Rome, Paris and Amsterdam, always absorbing the culture and the exhibits of the Old Masters. She is currently completing her MFA.
Anne chose to work in illustration because it allows her to use her preferred techniques and style to create work she believes in and that suits clients. When she sees a need - her work reflects that need; her work is designed and executed to gently push people into more awareness and respect for the natural world and the importance of compassion and transformation in our lives.
She uses illustration and symbolism to express self-created stories and statements about aspects
